Wildest Dream

This box is nothing but RAD! It was so much fun! There is sort of a pattern, but not... and that's exactly what I wanted. I imagined a piece that would be very different, a little crazy, and very striking. It turned out beautifully.
It was strategically assembled using over 35 seperate pieces of wood, and over 40 glueing operations. This elegant shape is so fun to play with for variouse designs and patterns... it has become a favorite of mine to be creative with. The African Ebony has a beautiful blonde grain that came out quite boldly... it is gorgeous!! The contrasting red stripes are solid Bloodwood. It was really neat placing the stripes speratically through the ebony... this sort of work is good for the imagination! It is invisibly hinged with my steel/brass pin and sleeve hinges. I hand sanded and finished this piece with a Polymerized Tung Oil which seals and protects the hardwoods. It was then buffed and waxed to a glassy perfection, and polished with a lemon oil treatment.
Wildest Dream is inlaid for authenticity with my hand carved Ebony and Ivory Woodworks logo. The genuine Mastadon Ivory is destinguished by the interlocking criss-cross grain... which is not visible in this picture... sorry... that's a real shame! The ivory piece was so amazing all polished up... it almost looked like it was made of gold from some angles!
This box was made as a wedding gift for two very close friends. They are a such beautiful people, and make the most wonderful couple together.
